An energy company had a business requirement to rapidly deliver holistic IT Services On-Demand. The goal was to migrate from traditional multi-tier applications—Exchange, SAP, legacy systems, for example, to an IaaS capability, while delivering scalable in-memory databases for HANA, and for all distributed high performance computing workloads.
Provide a SDDC delivery model for the energy company’s new private cloud infrastructure that delivers business outcomes across two main areas: First, it enables companies to shift resources toward innovation and business growth by driving efficiency and ensuring that IT no longer is a rate-limiting step in launching new business projects. Second: driving ongoing operational efficiencies that helps administrators spend more time on value-added projects.
Based on new and evolving federal compliance requirements and best practices for the utility industry, a high availability and resilient infrastructure was needed. An architecture was needed to support business continuity and automation of the disaster recovery processes.
xTECH360 was engaged to provide the following:
Design and implement a Converged infrastructure based on Cisco UCS Flexpod equipment. Achieve data center virtualization and Hybrid Cloud extensibility, significantly reducing CapEx by standardizing services on logical resources and simplifying the data center footprint. Deliver security controls native to the infrastructure, by shifting security from perimeter defense to fine-grained isolation with micro-segmentation in the overall design. Take over and manage steady state operations of the systems environments during the transformation period, while committing to meeting and/or exceeding negotiated SLA’s.
Working with the energy company and their strategic technology partners, xTECH360 achieved the following:
Implemented 6 new Cisco UCS Flexpod environments, all managed via a SDDM designed set of tools and processes. Delivered a new High Availability and resilient infrastructure, simplifying the architecture needed to support business continuity and automation of the disaster recovery process between two geographic locations (Denver & Minneapolis).
Migrated the majority of the legacy applications to the new Converged environments while exceeding SLA contractual requirements during this transformation period, then given back the support and services turn-key, with 100% complete documentation.
The migration successfully delivered SAP GL and WAM Go-Live events without any significant issues during hypercare, stabilization and performance tuning period.
